Mogging Fever – It’s Contagious!!!

So it’s been about a month since I paused the blog and the last few days I’ve been itching to write something.  I haven’t got anything in particular to say, so I thought I’d give an update on what I’ve been doing over the last 28 days or so.

Mogging Fever!

I’ve caught it, and it doesn’t seem to be going away, but farming instances is a different and fun way to waste my time.  Thus far I have picked up a set for my hunter, druid, warlock, death knight (although his was vendor bought), and two sets for my warrior main.

I have successfully turned my tauren warrior into a paladin with the Tier 2 Judgement Set Recolor that is purple and silver.  I even picked up the Aldori Legacy Defender and Doom’s Edge to round out a pretty cool tank set.  I know the axe doesn’t really match but in my opinion as long as the weapon looks bad ass, then I’m okay with it.

For a dps set I stuck with the paladin theme and farmed out the Tier 1 Lawbringer Armor Recolor which my guild mates have lovingly dubbed the “Red Banana Suit”.  To go along with this I have my sword mogged to Reclaimed Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood.  I have about 5 various tier sets on my warrior that I will throw on every now and then but the two sets above are my favorite, not only because of looks but because I intended to farm them.  The others I just acquired and threw in my bank when the raids were new.

My tauren druid, although resto with a dps offspec, now looks like a rogue with feral shoulders.  I farmed out a purple recolor of the Dungeon Set 1 Shadowcraft Armor but changed the shoulders to Underdweller’s Spaulders when I got them from Morchok, he gave them away so willingly too ha ha.  That giant mace you see is actually the Bloodskull Destroyer, a one hand mace that drops from Lieutenant Drake in the Caverns of Time: Old Hillsbrad instance.

I am currently farming a blue recolor of the Tier 2 Bloodfang Armor.  I know, it’s another rogue set, but I’m also working on the Tier 2 Stormrage Raiment Recolor, which is a much more traditional resto druid set.

I liked my hunter’s set a lot more when I first saw it, now I’m sick of it, but it is a full set and that looks better than the myriad of junk I’m actually wearing.  Yes, he does look like a shaman in this recolor of the Tier 1 Shaman Earthfury Set.

Originally I couldn’t find a hunter set that I really liked but now the Tier 1 Giantstalker Armor set from Molten Core has grown on me and I’m also farming a recolor of the Tier 2 Dragonstalker Armor.  I’m not a huge fan of the way gear looks on a troll to begin with but I am finding it hard to justify race changing him just for mogging purposes.

My death knight’s gear is all vendor bought from an NPC in Ebon Hold.  It is available only to death knights, but is a pretty quick and extremely cheap way to make your death knight look awesome.

I’m farming a recolor of the Dungeon Set 1 Lightforge Armor paladin gear and the Tier 2 Battlegear of Wrath Recolor for this guy.

This has to be my second favorite set next to my warrior’s tank gear.  It’s a recolor of the Tier 2 Nemesis Raiment.  The sword drops from Quagmirran in the heroic version of Slave Pens.

This guy is also working on a recolor of the Tier 1 Arcanist Regalia but I don’t see myself changing out his main set too often.

Holy crap I didn’t think this post would be so long!  It just goes to show that Mogging Fever is real and I’ve got it bad!  All of the gear I’ve set out to farm has come from Burning Crusade normal and heroic 5 mans, which has made it relatively easy to farm on 5 characters.  This is about all I’ve been doing since my last post.  I am posting auctions off and on and am up to ~150k gold but I’m not keeping track of anything, which is making life much more simple for the time being.  I hope you enjoyed the post!

Until next time, happy sales!

AFK_Indefnitely

Time to take some time off.  The blog, and gold making in general, is going to the bottom of my To Do List.

A number of reasons are responsible for this:
- After hitting the 1 million cap, then spending half of it I am lacking the motivation to continue and am taking a break, compared to forcing myself and burning out
- Mid-patch slump
- Pre-expansion slump
- My doctors have told me that I am finally cancer free and this makes me want to be more active
- I’m finally strong enough to get out and be more active

There are other reasons but you get the idea.

In the mean time I will continue to raid with my team, be active in the <Power Word Guild> on US Lightbringer – Alliance, and grind out mogging sets for my alts.  I am watching a decent amount of livestream from great people like Jim Younkin formerly “Flux” of Power Word: Gold and Faid from Clockwork Riot and Nerf Faids.  Lot of links, I know, but if you are interested in their livestreams specifically then you can find them and a few others here.

As for this blog, I hope to be back and writing for Mists of Pandaria but I will determine that as we get closer to the launch.

Until then, happy sales!

Sales Week Ending 3/5

First week of March is complete, let’s look at what happened!

Beginning of Week Gold: 572,929g
End of Week Gold: 577,324g
Increase/Decrease: 4,395g Increase

Sales: 212,641g
Spending: 201,408g
Profit/Loss: 11,233g Profit

Avg. Price Per Item: 139g 43s 70c

First off I want to say that the big gap in gold increase compared to profit is due to some fun I’m having with my guild mates.  We often /roll for gold just for the hell of it and somehow I managed to lose all 3 rolls we did this week.

Sales jumped ~62k from last week but I definitely put a lot more time into canceling and re-posting this week.  Gem prices plummeted mid week and you’ll see that in my averages breakdown.  Enchants are also down while glyphs and ‘others’ rose.  Most of my spending this week was for my enchanting market.  While scrolls are decreasing in price, maelstrom crystals continue to hold their ground at 180g-200g each.

Breakdown of Sales:
Gems: 852 sold for 47,413g, avg. item price of 55g 64s 91c
Enchants: 112 sold for 120,455g, avg. item price of 1,075g 49s 10c
Glyphs: 470 sold for 19,826g, avg. item price of 42g 18s 30c
Other: 91 sold for 24946g, avg. item price of 274g 13s 19c

With the exception of glyphs, quantities are up this week, largely due to my increased activity at the auction house.  I noticed, as I’m sure others have, that botters seem to be back in full force.  Elementium ore has dropped drastically and, as I stated above, gems prices have suffered because of it.  There is still plenty of profit to be made, but 200g+ inferno rubies are no more, at least for the time being.  I would venture to assume that the herb market is similar but I am fully stocked on inks so I have not checked out herbs recently.

As usual, my top page continues along with minimal changes.

Until next week, happy sales!

Sales Week Ending 2/27

Another week finished, let’s get into it!

Beginning of Week Gold: 702,460g
End of Week Gold: 572,929g
Increase/Decrease: 129,531g Decrease

Sales: 149,734g
Spending: 273,322g
Profit/Loss: 123,588 Loss

Avg. Price Per Item: 124g 98s 74c

Sales are down ~30k from last week but this doesn’t disappoint me much.  A lot of the spending this week was for fun things, like gearing out my warlock and druid, which amounted to 168,421g.  When you remove that from the ‘Spending’ category above the end result is a profit of 44,833g.

Breakdown of Sales:
Gems: 530 sold for 45,206g, avg. item price of 85g 26s 43c
Enchants: 49 sold for 66,477g, avg. item price of 1,356g 67s 35c
Glyphs: 547 sold for 20,473g, avg. item price of 37g 42s 78c
Other: 72 sold for 17,578g, avg. item price of 244g 13s 89c

Glyph quantities shot up from the 303 total last week, while the average price dropped from 55g.  I’m still making a solid profit at 37g per glyph however, so I’m not concerned yet.

Nothing new and noteworthy on the top page this week.

Until next week, happy sales!

Sales Week Ending 6/20

Late post tonight.  Family was in town for lunch so I’ve been preoccupied most of the day.  Without further ado, let’s get into this week.

Beginning of Week Gold: 608,000g
End of Week Gold: 702,460g
Increase/Decrease: 94,460g Increase

Sales: 179,590g
Spending: 85,912g
Profit/Loss: 93,678g

Avg. Price per Item: 179g 94s 99c

Things look a little different now.  I will explain shortly.

Sales were up from last week while items sold were down, which means my average price per item is up.  Spending was down a great deal this week, which I attribute to the lack of toys bought.  For right now I’m content with what I have and am not looking to acquire any more gold sinks.

I’ve been wanting to get a little more detailed in my collection of data and now have had a week to put it to work.  I included the second group, ‘Profit/Loss’ more specifically, because I do earn and spend gold in categories that I don’t track, like LFR or LFD income or spending on raiding repairs.  I like how it turned out.

I also noticed a problem this week with my screenshot timing.  Although I can’t show one way or another, there is a possibility that I was including an extra day in my sales.  I caught it this week and had to wait a few more hours to get the correct data.  Going forward this possibility has been eliminated.

Gold Breakdown of Sales:
Gems: 63,177g
Enchants: 81,444g
Glyphs: 16,835g
Other: 18,134g

Quantity Breakdown of Sales:
Gems: 564
Enchants: 65
Glyphs: 303
Other: 66

Since I started tracking glyph quantities, this is the lowest they have been.  The previous low was 454, just two weeks ago.

Top page is unchanged yet again.

I hope you like the changes I made.  I know I like them because I feel I have a better grip on the details.  I’m sure the layout will continue to evolve and if there’s something I’m leaving out that you would like to see just let me know and I’ll be happy to adjust as I deem necessary.

Until next week, happy sales!

Sales Week Ending 2/13

As of this week my posts will be on Mondays, so we have a bit of an overlap from last week.

Sales are down from the past few weeks but still strong.  I finished the week with a total of 608,000g.  Spending on toys has continued this week as this total is 218,000g less than last.  The average sale price per item was 149g.

Categorical Breakdown:
Gems: 41,427g
Enchants: 75,080g
Glyphs: 30,524g
Other: 14,095g

Although my items are keeping a steady average price, the total items sold is decreasing, which I attribute to posting only once a night instead of twice as I was doing previously.  Other than that, the top page is relatively unchanged.

Sorry for the short (and late) post this week but there isn’t a lot to report at this time.  I’m working on some more detailed analysis but it isn’t ready to be shared yet.

Until next week, happy sales!

A Change to Sales Week Ending

Sales Week Ending will be moving to Mondays!  Effective Monday 2/13.

I have been using Tuesday as the posting date up until now because it is the reset day for everything in WoW, which seemed fitting.  Recently I have preferred to be in game while writing the post so I can look up data at a moments notice, and with Tuesday maintenance this is not always possible.

Not a huge change but something I felt was significant enough that it required a heads up for everyone.

Until Monday, happy sales!

Sales Week Ending 2/7

It’s that time again!

Even after hitting the one million mark I can’t seem to get away from the gold making game.  I decided to treat myself with a bunch of pets and ended up spending 188,000g on those but I also couldn’t resist picking up a ton of materials this week to keep me stocked.  I ended the week with 826,000g, down 199,000g from last.  The average sale price per item was 155g.

I can’t say I’ve changed my play style a lot, but I have made a few minor adjustments.  From the day patch 4.3 dropped until last Tuesday I posted twice a day, once at 8pm server and then cancel/repost again at 11pm server.  This week I went back to days of patch 4.2, posting just once at 8pm server and forgetting about the auctions until the next morning, and I’m glad to see there isn’t a huge decline in sales due to that.

Categorical Breakdown:
Gems: 74,488g
Enchants: 82,367g
Glyphs: 32,384g
Other: 21,108g

My top page is unchanged again.  One thing I have not mentioned is the positive effect looking for raid has had on my sales.  I am confident in saying that without looking for raid my sales would not be near as strong as they have been.

I am still trying to figure out what my next big goal is.  I have flirted with the idea of getting to 10 level 85 characters but there’s just something about making gold that makes me want to go for the 2 million mark.  Both are respectable goals and will take a lot of time, but for the next week or two I’ll continue relaxing and enjoying the game, then make a decision regarding my goals.

Until next week, happy sales!

One Million and How I Did It

My Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame interview has been submitted and is now posted.  This post is a look back upon my journey and how I did it.

I started my adventure in June of last year and it’s hard for me to believe I’ve sold 3.9 million gold worth of items in a span of 217 days.  Per day that’s an average of 162 items totaling 17,985g.  Per week it’s an average of 1,134 items bringing in 125,895g.

My two major markets have been enchants and gems.  I started with gems and they continue to be my most consistent sellers, but enchants have taken the total gross spot due to their high price per enchant.  Here are the totals from both markets:

Amberjewel: 2,357 sold for 43,909g
Demonseye: 3,074 sold for 95,565g
Dream Emerald: 831 sold for 13,406g
Ember Topaz: 3,025 sold for 130,035g
Inferno Ruby: 4,479 sold for 677,300g
Ocean Sapphire: 1,375 sold for 17,223g
Shadowspirit Diamond: 2,323 sold for 405,706g
Total Gems Sold: 17,464 sold for 1,383,144g

Boot Enchants: 131 sold for 137,315g
Bracer Enchants: 374 sold for 272,758g
Chest Enchants: 210 sold for 158,382g
Cloak Enchants: 233 sold for 91,145g
Glove Enchants: 156 sold for 134,435g
Weapon Enchants: 544 sold for 656,505g
Total Enchants Sold: 1,648 sold for 1,450,540g

I hope with my breakdown of gems sold by color that everyone will realize there is a demand for other cuts besides inferno rubies.  Sure inferno rubies are what make the market, but every sale you can make from other color cuts helps to increase your profit.  Enchants are somewhat similar in that weapon enchants are by far the highest division of that market, but the other divisions are very important as well.  You can also see here why enchants were my top market overall.  880g per enchant throughout was just too much for the volume of gems to overcome, although I must admit it was a closer finish than I had expected.

Not surprisingly my top page here is pretty much what you’d expect on a weekly basis, just with larger numbers.  Like I said above, at times it’s hard for me to look at this and realize over the past 7 months I actually sold the volume I did, both in quantity of items and gold income.  These may be my top 20 items but there are a ton of other items, mainly cut gems but even a few glyphs, that totaled anywhere from 5,000g to 50,000g.  If I were to try and post pics of all my pages this post would never end though.

Glyphs
I could not have been happier with how my glyphs sales have turned out.  I look at glyphs as a passive income because I put minimal time into them and it’s such a large market that breaking it down along with gems and enchants would be a nightmare.  I ended up selling a total of 5,066 glyphs for a grand total of 278,953gIn the past month alone I sold a large chunk of that; 2,367 glyphs totaling 120,681g.  This is a market that I love because I restock once a week and other than loot in the morning, post in the evening, I have nothing to do with it all week.

Other
My ‘Other’ category includes everything else I sell on a regular basis but cannot be categorized under gems, enchants or glyphs.
The top sellers in this group are:

Ebonsteel Belt Buckle: 1,352 sold for 194,697g
Heavenly Shard: 1,931 sold for 162,170g
Dragonscale Leg Armor: 157 sold for 121,683g
Total Other Items: 7,060 sold for 662,827g
Obviously there are a number of other items sold under this category but the next highest to dragonscale leg armor was drakehide leg armor at 35,490g, the rest went down from there.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with everything I’ve done.  I am already enjoying a much more relaxed pace on the auction house front.  I’m not pushing every day to make sure I have everything set up and ready to go for the night’s auctions.  It’s a nice feeling being able to say; ‘Damn, nothing is ready for tonight, oh well I’ll do it tomorrow’, instead of freaking out about every lost minute that my stuff could be sitting on the auction house.  This is a game after all, and while constantly rushing to get everything done was fun for a while, it’s refreshing to sit back and enjoy it as ‘a game’.

If you’ve gotten this far I hope you enjoyed what you read because I enjoyed crunching the numbers and breaking it down, I’m an accounting nerd like that.  Look for my normal sales week ending post coming on Tuesday.

Until next week, happy sales!

Sales Week Ending 1/31 – The Grind is Over

I’ve always been told you need to start off a speech or a paper with something catchy to keep the attention of the audience/reader throughout.  Well here is my (not so serious) attempt at that:

Paint is so much more fun at 6 A.M. when I’m semi-delirious ha ha.

As you can see, it is done, the grind is over.  I’ve had a blast doing it because it sustained my desire to play a game that I had previously become bored of and it allowed me a window of insight into an entire new community that I would have been blind to otherwise.  Now that it’s over what will I do?  Who knows.  Raiding?  We’ll see.  Continue gold grind?  Probably but much less actively.  Spend more quality time in <Power Word Guild> on Lightbringer – Alliance?  Most definitely!

Enough speculation though.  Another week has passed and it’s time to reveal just how the week went.

Whew, huge week.  I’ll have to check and edit after the fact but I believe this is #4 on my top weeks page.  I will say this, going into yesterday I was at 224,000g for the week.  I was so determined to hit the cap on the day my post was due that I decided to post/cancel/repost from noon yesterday until midnight last night.  That’s what brought in the last 62,000g and what got me over the one million hump.  I ended the week with a grand total of 1,025,000g, a staggering increase of 144,000g.  The average sale price per item was over 180g!  That’s a 40g increase PER ITEM over last week!

Categorical Breakdown:
Gems: 121,729g
Enchants: 105,441g
Glyphs: 25,687g
Other: 31,846

I don’t know what caused the change, but gem sales more than doubled from last week.  Prices have been on a steady upswing but I still managed to sell 300+ more gems this week.

Everything on the top page is expected to be there so that will do it for this week.

I’ll be keeping the blog updated weekly as usual but you may notice a very sharp decline in sales coming soon.  Now that I have completed my goal I need to figure out what my next one will be.

Until next week, happy sales!
